“Thanks, Nanna,” says Bryndís Loftsdóttir, picking out her favourite from the home's private book collection: a mammoth, bright-orange cookbook by food guru Nanna Rögnvaldardóttir.

Bryndís Loftsdóttir's business is books. And as far as she is concerned, there's nothing wrong with mixing business with pleasure. Her home in Seltjarnarnes houses a large book collection, packed with Halldór Laxness, the sagas, reference books and metres upon metres of shelve space devoted to Icelandic contemporary literature. Her favourite, however, is a very special cookbook, now out of print. No, you can't borrow it.
