During the year 2013 the Icelandic Literature Center allocated among other 75 grants for translations of Icelandic works into 26 languages. These are translations of novels, children's books, poetry, and non-fiction books. It is interesting to note that novels by Sjón and Gyrðir Elíasson are soon to be published in Chinese, and recently Leigjandinn / Un locataire by Svava Jakobsdóttir was published in French translation.  Furthermore it is noticeable that the French publishers and readers seem to be extremely interested in Icelandic literature with 13 new books from 12 Icelandic authors published in France this year.

The 2013 Icelandic Literature Prize was awarded to the novel Evil by Eiríkur Örn Norðdahl and Pater Jón Sveinsson – Nonni by Gunnar F. Guðmundsson, beautiful biography of the Icelandic children‘s books author Nonni. Evil will among others be published in Swedish (Rámus) and German (Klett-Cotta) in the coming year.

In May the Icelandic Literature Center awarded special support for New Writing in Iceland to four works by new authors, among them Vince Vaughn in the Sky by Halldór Armand Halldórsson.

Warmest season‘s greetings and a wonderful 2014!
